Assessment Day

Today we were assessed on our VET Portfolios. It was very scary. I have been working on finishing my Portfolio ever since the end of my workplacement at Roar Film. It has been a very scary journey. I’ve almost finished my Portfolio, then lost it, then recovered bits of bit. And now it’s very close to being done. It was very weird that right when Adrian was sitting outside, waiting to assess us, the network went down and all our computers froze. It was very nerve-wracking because my Flash file wouldn’t open. But Len helped me to fix that so I didn’t lose any work. Adrian came in at about 4.30pm and started assessing us at 5pm. He started with me first. My Portfolio is very close to finished, except my Diary scenes which are, for some reason, not working. I showed Adrian my Portfolio, and all my websites, flashes, graphics and other cool stuff that I’ve done. He seemed to like what I’ve done, especially the Pong game (haha). After that, the assessment was over and I was done! Mr. Lelong printed out my CD cover and it looks cool. I still have to design a CD label, which will be pretty easy. We’re going out for dinner at 6pm as a VET class to D’Angelos. It’ll be good. We’re gonna have one last VET class next week, where we’re going to finish off anything we haven’t done, and burn out CDs. I can’t believe it’s so close to the end.

Today I worked on my Portfolio for the majority of the day. Mr. Lelong came to visit me pretty early on during the day, and he had a look at my portfolio. I asked him a few questions about my Portfolio and he was able to help me so that was good. We then talked for a while, and he talked to Amanda. He also took some pictures of me, which he said he needed for a video thingy about VET students. He told me to take a few pictures of my workplace so that he could use them too. I played around with Flash tutorials and worked more on my introduction. I edited some of my links and buttons, because they were acting funny. I met Erwin and Tharinee for lunch in town, which was nice. I also bought a box of chocolates for the people at the company to give them as a little present. After lunch, I continued to work on my Portfolio and I’m satisfied with what I have completed in these two weeks. I haven’t finished it, but Mr. Lelong said we have about 4 more weeks left so that’s ok. Now I’m going to take some photos for my OHS bit of my Portfolio, and for Mr. Lelong for his VET student video thingy. BYE!

Today I worked on a job that Amanda assigned me to do. She wanted me to edit characters for a Flash animation movie the company was working on. Chris emailed me the image of a girl, and Amanda wanted me to make her look “hip” (lol). Anyways, she got me to change her top, her hair and put some jewellery on her. The file Chris gave me was a Flash file, so I had to export it as an .ai file to be able to edit it on Illustrator. I then got to work with the image. It took me a very long time to finish this image, because I kept on messing it up and having to start all over again. It was very frustrating and time-consuming. But I eventually finished it and Amanda was really happy with the result so yay. I met Laura, William, Row and Erwin for lunch in town, which was nice. When I came back, Amanda got me to edit another image, but that was just an image of a boy that she wanted to add ipod wires to. So it was pretty fast. After that, I worked on my Portfolio for a while, adding more images, and working on the animation bit of it.

I forgot to post my post yesterday so I thought I’d better do it now before I forget. Today at work I was able to complete a lot of work on my Portfolio. I have finally started work on my introduction page. I came up with an idea last night, and so when I got to work today, I immediately started work on it. I played around on Flash for a bit, to see if my ideas were actually possible on Flash, and I looked at some tutorials on the internet that might help me as well. I also gathered some images that I am planning to use for my introduction, and I started editing them on Photoshop. This took up a lot of my time today. During lunch, I met up with Erwin and we had lunch at the cafe. When I got back, I continued editing images in Photoshop. After I finished editing them, I compressed each of them in Fireworks, which also took up a lot of my time. I was then able to start a bit of animation on my introduction page. Amanda came to talk to me today and she said that she might give me a job to do tomorrow, which is pretty exciting. She wants me to edit characters that they are using for movies in Illustrator, like changing their hairstyles and clothes. Fun! Right when I thought that I was done with Photoshop, I realised that I hadn’t edited all my images so I went back on Photoshop and edited all of them. This has now taken me to the time right now, which is 4:56pm. 4 more minutes!

Today was a very slow day at work. I arrived rather early, which was weird. When I got there, I started work on my Flash portfolio. I edited more images for my animation, and I like how they’re turning out so far. I added more content in and was able to do quite a bit. I also made a Flash game to add to my portfolio, because I only have one. That took me a long time to make so that’s pretty much all I’ve done today. Oh, and Erwin visited me during my Lunch break and we walked around in the rain before having muffins and hot chocolate in a little cafe. It was nice to have some company. Well…its exactly 4min till I knock off. Gonna meet Row in after after this. Yay

I didn’t go to work yesterday because my tonsilitis has come back! Argh how annoying. I came to work today and I’ve been coughing the whole day. Can’t wait to go home and sleep . Anyways, today at work I made more progress on my Portfolio. I made more links to scenes and perfected my buttons and stuff like that. I also finished my “About Me” page. Finally. I’m still thinking of something to do for my introduction because I’ve almost finished everything else. I guess I have the whole weekend to do that. Yay. Today Mr. Lelong called me at work and asked if I’ve handed my IP to Mr. Will. I’ve passed it to Row so that was alright. It’s due in today and if Mr. Will doesn’t get it today I’ll fail it. :S But then he realised that I forgot to hand in a really important form so I got a ton of calls from my sister, and Row and Mr. Will. Then, Mr. Will visited me at work at 4pm so that I could fill out the form. It was supposed to take 5min but we ended up taking 20min cos there were three pages of questions to answer. Very weird. Anyways, it’s now 4 40pm…20min till I’m free! Amanda said she’d like to see my work before I go. Scary…I don’t even know where she is. Anyways, I can’t believe that I’ve only got another 5 days of workplacement left. Yay. Can’t wait!

Today at work I managed to finish editing all my images and started actual work on my Flash. I re-did the first page and started on some of the other pages. It looks pretty cool at the moment. One of the programmers took a look at it and guessed that I had an Andy Warhol influence! Yay. That means my work is actually believable, which is good. He said it looked cool so yay! That was pretty much all I did today. I took a really long time to do all the stuff but its looking good so all the hard work is paying off. I had to leave work at 2 30pm today because I had to be back at Fahan for House Play rehearsals at 3 30pm. I’m doing the sound for Fenton’s play. House Plays are tomorrow night so everyone should come and watch! Catcha later

I was really early for work today. It was weird. Anyways, when I got there, I started work on my Portfolio. I continued working with the idea I had. I re-did my first page cos I didn’t like what I did yesterday. Today, I didnt’ really do much work on Flash, but did more work in Photoshop creating images and graphics for my Portfolio. It took a long time to create things in Photoshop, which was annoying, but rewarding. Mr. Lelong visited me today! Yay! It was nice to see a familiar face. He talked to me about my Portfolio and about my folder. Then I introduced him to Amanda, my temporary supervisor, and they chatted about England and the weather for a bit. Then he left. I was sad, but I got back to work. Now its 4 50! Yay 10 more mins. I think I’ll start packing up hehe. I need chocolate so badly. ciao

Day 1: Monday 3rd September 2007

Today was my first day at Roar Film. Although I couldn’t find it when I went hunting for it on Saturday, I was able to find it easily today. yay. No one was there yet when I got there, except Amanda. So she showed me around the place. It was really cool. I like the whole red and brown theme. Funky. Anyways, no one was there still after she showed me around, so she made us both coffee and we chatted in the kitchen for a while. People started coming in after 9 so she introduced me to some of them and showed me my workspace. The whole company uses Macs and they had one ready for me but I used my own laptop. The workspace was big, unlike the cramped up one I had at Future Medium. I then got to work with my Portfolio. I had an idea that I wanted to use so I started coming up with stuff. But halfway through, I got sick of it and came up with a better one. I managed to get quite a bit done today so I was happy. It started raining right when I stepped out to get lunch. Argh. And right when I stepped out to go home. Rain must love me. Oh well. Overall, my first day flew by quickly and I’m confident that I’ll be able to get a lot done during this placement. Toodles for now.

Okay…so I haven’t exactly been very good with writing in my wordpress journal since workplacement. But I’m back now so yay

Anyways, our second workplacement is coming up in 2 weeks time…and I’m going to Roar Film. I’m pretty excited and nervous at the same time. I have to work on my flash portfolio during workplacement. At the moment, we just uploaded our Tiaraman websites onto the server so that James/Graham can have a look at it. And we’re just doing our own thing right now. Brainstorming for ideas and starting on our portfolios. We’re finishing at hour early today yay
